Adstuff Search Tips

Use the selection lists to narrow down the list of ads that match your criteria.

The selection lists are used in conjunction with any key words that you enter to refine the list of ads even further.

Key Words

Use key words to help search for possible ads, based on the ad text.

Choose words that identify the ad you are looking for.

Common words such as "the", "with" or "ad" are ignored.

Key words are not case sensitive: "Manager" will find the same ads as "MANAGER".

Keyword Rules

Key Words allow the use of special Operators and Parentheses for performing advanced matching.

Partial Word Matching

You can perform a partial word match by ending your key words with an asterisk.

The first example below will find ads containing any word starting with "educat"; "Educational", "educator", "educating" etc:

EXAMPLES:

  • Educat*
  • Manage*
  • Laborat*

Asterisks must be at the end of words; asterisks at the beginning or in the middle of a word are discarded.

Phrase searching

You can perform phrase searches to look for sentences or sections of a sentence.

EXAMPLES:

  • law firm
  • legal secretary with experience
  • skilled management professional

The OR Operator

Use the OR operator to find ads containing any of your keywords.

The first example below will find ads containing the word "registrar" PLUS ads containing the word "doctor" PLUS ads containing the word "surgeon".

EXAMPLES:

  • registrar OR doctor OR surgeon
  • locksmith OR hardware
  • teacher OR tutor

The AND Operator

Use the AND operator to find ONLY ads containing ALL of your keywords.

The first example below will find ONLY ads that contain both the words "locksmith" and "hardware".

EXAMPLES:

  • locksmith AND hardware
  • sales AND marketing
  • travel AND overseas

Advanced Searches using Parentheses and Combinations

You can combine multiple AND and OR operators within your key word expression.

Use parentheses ( ) to group complex terms and to enforce precedence.

EXAMPLE:

  • (manage* OR senior) AND executive - finds ads that contain the word "executive" AND either words beginning with "manage" OR the word "senior" in the ad text.

Group Searching

GROUPING allows for lists or groups of words to  be searched on. To separate the words, use the comma - ','.

EXAMPLE:

  • great, fenced, maintenance

You can also group phrases as well

EXAMPLE:

  • senior management, car provided, immediate start,

Mixed Searching

You can also combine the different type of searching from above, to further the chances of finding exactly the ad you want.

EXAMPLE:

  • great opportunity AND (nurs*, private hospital OR charge nurse)
